Slumdog Millionaire Movie Review

I called my boo over and watched Slumdog Millionaire last night due to a few recommendations from my friends. The fact that Slumdog Millionaire got nominated for 10 Academy Awards this year and won 8 also piqued my interest in the movie. In many ways Slumdog Millionaire has garnered much fame and fortune from the masses and without further ado here are my takes on the movie.

At first glance my boo quickly pointed out that Slumdog Millionaire is a hindustan movie. I informed her that Slumdog Millionaire is a British film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy. True to its hindustan roots, Slumdog Millionaire is a movie adaptation of the novel Q & A written by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup. In a nutshell, Slumdog Millionaire is an emotional roller coaster ride centering on an almost true to life portrayal of how a guy from the slums of Mumbai appeared on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" TV show. During the course of Slumdog Millionaire, audiences will be presented with numerous flashbacks in time showing how Jamal Malik(Dev Patel) the main protagonist had come to know most of the correct answers to the questions posed to him in "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?". This style of story telling works rather well with Slumdog Millionaire as it presents many golden opportunities to show scenes with highly emotional dramatic effects.

Slumdog Millionaire Movie Trailer

All in all I will definitely recommend Slumdog Millionaire not because of its fame and awards won, but for its strong portrayal of human life and emotions. My Love For Life movie review rating for Slumdog Millionaire: 4/5.

Twilight Movie Review

I watched Twilight during the weekend with my boo and my first impression of Twilight is "Twilight=Jumper+Dracula". And with the strong focus on forbidden fantasy romance and love between a teenage girl and a dashingly handsome vampire, Twilight is a sure hit as a chick flick. Twilight has its source material from a novel of the same name written by Stephenie Meyer and is directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

Twilight successfully captures the essense of "awkward" teenage high school romance with an added seductive fantasy appeal of vampires. In Twilight there is a scene where Edward Cullen(Robert Pattinson), the protagonist vampire told Bella Swan(Kristen Stewart), the leading female that his kind is the world's most feared predator, where everything about him (appearance, smell, speech, strength, speed) will seduce and draw her closer to him as his prey. I think everything about Edward Cullen will have the same effect for female audiences as well. During the piggyback riding scenes my boo even suggested that I do the same for her too!

Generally I find that Twilight is a better movie with female audiences in mind though it is quite watchable for the guys as well. My Love For Life movie review rating for Twilight: 3.5/5

The Day The Earth Stood Still Movie Review

I watched The Day The Earth Stood Still with my boo last night and I must say that it was an interesting experience. At the beginning, I notice that my boo was messing around with my phone so I told her to pay attention to the movie. She then said that the beginning of the movie was slow and a bit dull. I kinda see her point on this but once The Day The Earth Stood Still kicked into high gear by introducing the alien sphere, we had out full attention on the action on screen.

The Day The Earth Stood Still is a "reimagining" of the 1951 sci-fi movie of the same name. Starring Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, the alien being from far across the galaxy, The Day The Earth Stood Still is about how an advanced alien being is sent to Earth to rescue the planet from the destructive nature of humans. Keanu Reeves did a believable portrayal of Klaatu the alien being without much overacting involved. I guess he is well suited for non melodramatic robotic roles to play. It is also a pleasant surprise to see Jennifer Connelly back on screen again this time playing the role of Dr. Helen Benson who is trying to persuade Klaatu from wiping out the entire human race from the face of the Earth.

The Day The Earth Stood Still is a great popcorn movie to watch. My Love For Life Movie review rating for The Day The Earth Stood Still: 4/5.

Changeling Movie Review

When I first saw the movie trailer for Changeling I wasn't that impressed. Only after constant persuasion from my boo that we decided to pickup a copy on DVD and watched it during the weekend. Changeling is a drama movie directed by Clint Eastwood. It is based on a true story about a reunion of a mother with her kidnapped son, only to discover that he is an impostor.

Angelina Jolie does an outstanding job by playing the role of Christine Collins. Her depiction of a desperate mother trying against all odds to persuade the authorities to find her real son is very believable and full of powerful emotions. On another note, there are certain scenes in Changeling that most will consider too grueling to watch especially those related to the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders, a horrendous kidnapping and murder case uncovered in 1928.

All in all, Changeling is worth a watch because of the heartfelt emotional drama involved and the thought provoking storyline. My Love For Life movie review rating for Changeling: 3.5/5

W Movie Review

I have been eagerly anticipating how Oliver Stone will produce a biographical movie focusing on the life and presidency of George W. Bush. I got all my questions and doubts answered last weekend when I watched W (dub-ya) with my cousin. Throughout W, I can see that most of the time my cousin had a smirk on his face. There is no denying it that W has its fair share of hilarious moments like how G. W. missed a turn while walking back with his cabinet members on his ranch while having a briefing on the go. Heck even the famous George W. Bush pretzel incident was done rather well in the movie.

Josh Brolin did a remarkable job by his portrayal of George W. Bush. While not 100% identical, I never doubt that his onscreen persona was not the real George W. Bush. Other honorable mentions include James Cromwell as George H. W. Bush, Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney and Sayed Badreya as Saddam Hussein. On a special note, I have to admit that I didn't recognize Thandie Newton when she played Condoleezza Rice in W.

W Movie Trailer

If you are a little bit curious about the life of George W. Bush, watch W. If you want a movie that is interesting and gives you an insider's perspective of president George W. Bush, watch W. If you are just curious about the movie, definitely watch W. My Love For Life Movie Review Rating for W: 3.5/5

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Movie Review

With thirteen Academy Award nominations, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is a movie not to be missed! Just when you thought it was gonna be another period of so so movie releases, you find gems like Taken and now The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button! First of all, I have to get this off my chest: I can't help myself but to compare The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button with Forrest Gump! Both main characters have special characteristics that set them apart from normal people and both movies chronicle the lives of the main characters since their childhood. With both movies I find myself captivated by the unique and facinating life experiences that each protagonist faced during their lifetime.

Not to give away any major spoilers, Brad Pitt plays the character of Benjamin Button who aged backwards. He was born as a baby with the biological characteristics of an elderly man. Throughout the course of the movie we get to see how Benjamin went through life from being born old to dying as an infant. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is full of human drama and heart felt emotions. The casting of characters is well done with big names such as Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond and Tilda Swinton accompanying Brad Pitt in this storytelling masterpiece written by Eric Roth and Robin Swicord, and directed by David Fincher.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Movie Trailer

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is highly recommended for all audiences who fit the MPAA rating of PG-13. My Love For Life Movie Review Rating for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button: 4.5/5. I didn't give it a perfect rating because The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button can be a bit draggy at times.

Taken Movie Review

Taken is quite an engrosing movie experience for me and I mean it in a good way. I watched Taken with my boo and this is one of the few movies that she watched until the very end without breaking out a yawn and giving me the sleepy and uninterested look.

Taken stars Liam Neeson as an ex-CIA agent who has given up his job to be close to his 17-year-old daughter played by Maggie Grace who is living with his ex-wife (Famke Janssen) and new rich husband (Xander Berkeley). This action/thriller has a great plot with very well executed action scenes. The characters are believable and the action sequences are not overly dramatic. And that is a good thing as you are kept on the edge of your seat while silently rooting for a man's quest to find his missing daughter.

I cannot stress enough that after a long hiatus of a genuinely good movie with all the right elements brought into play, Taken is the much needed breath of fresh air.

If you are old enough to watch Taken, do it! My Love For Life Movie Review Rating for Taken: 4.5/5
